Our History

Jones, Haugh & Smith Inc (JHS) was founded by Chet V. Jones in 1945. Harold H. Haugh joined Chet in 1953 and with both partners licensed in Engineering and Land Surveying, the company quickly became specialized in these fields and a tradition of technical expertise coupled with personalized service was born. Chet eventually retired in 1971, while Harold went on to serve as company President until 2001. Along the way, Arthur W. Smith, a professional Engineer, joined the firm in 1966 and served as Vice President until 2000 before retirement.

Today, after more than 63 years in business, a dedicated staff of engineering, land surveying and technical personnel carries on the tradition of a full service design company with a practical and personalized approach to serving client’s needs. A tradition that includes long lasting relationships with countless satisfied clients throughout the region.
 
Our Owatonna office, formerly known as Hosfield & Associates is a third generation Land Surveying company founded in 1947 by Percy Hosfield. Chuck Hosfield joined the company in 1948 and also provided Professional Engineering. In 1975, John Hosfield joined his father and currently leads the company staff of professional engineers and land surveyors within that office. Jones, Haugh & Smith Inc. purchased the assets of Hosfield & Associates in 2007.

We maintain our Austin location as a satellite office and staff that office on an as needed basis.

Our Staff

We are a firm which currently employs (18) people on a full time basis and consists of (7) Professionals Licensed in Engineering and Land Surveying, (4) Engineering and Drafting Technicians, (4) Surveying Assistants and (3) Clerical personnel. Our staff of seven professionals have over 120 years of combined experience serving clients throughout Southeast Minnesota and North Iowa. Three of the firm’s current Surveyors have served as past presidents of the Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS).
